Engineering Manager leads the engineering organization, both mechanical and electrical, in the development and execution of all engineering plans.  This includes new product development, project design and development, project management, custom projects, value engineering, team development, leadership, strategic planning, sales and technical support, and organization.  This individual will be an integral member of the  leadership team and play a key role in both the development and execution of the company strategic plan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Working with leadership team to develop, implement and sustain the company’s long-term and short-term strategic plans.
  2. Manage, direct, coach and mentor all employees in the engineering organization. Develops the team for expanded capabilities both in skills and management capability.
  3. Analyze technology trends and make recommendations on critical R&D investments.
  4. Work closely with the sales teams in North America and globally to understand the major market opportunities, while supporting them with engineering requirements.
  5. Identify solutions to the market opportunities and working with the leadership team to prioritize and resource accordingly.
  6. Direct all department activities related to the design of new products (standard and custom), modification of existing designs and improvement in both production and test capabilities.
  7. Optimize designs and clearly state design objectives in the areas of product functionality, cost and quality.
  8. Manage all projects for on time milestone and full completion.
  9. Outside the box thinker for both products, projects and team development to get the very best out of all three.
  10. Insure consistent application of formal project management tools across the department.
  11. Develop an annual engineering budget and provide periodic forecast updates as necessary.
  12. Develop a resource plan that fully supports both the long-term strategic plan as well as the annual budget. This should include both direct Montalvo resources as well as 3rd party support.
  13. Be aware of and in compliance with all company policies, to include all ISO9000 related polices on engineering development.
  14. Maintain a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve engineering design capabilities.
  15. Collaborate closely with all peers – Sales, Operations, Marketing, Customer Service and Finance.
  16. Maintain a working knowledge of all safety policies and regulations.
  17. Leads product and project designs and development individually and with team members to ensure accuracy and quality in the Engineering Departments output to ensure both in production.
  18. Ensures design to cost standards with performance requirements.
  19. Participate in grant requests at both the national and state level, to include the National Science Foundation and Maine Technology Institute.
